The Saudi Gastroenterology Association (SGA), in collaboration with Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, has launched the first Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center of Excellence Program (IBD COE) in Saudi Arabia.

The two-day program, held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Riyadh, brought together gastroenterologists from across the Kingdom. The initiative focused on early diagnosis, treatment strategies, and multidisciplinary care for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Key goals included raising awareness of IBD, identifying disease red flags, and promoting collaboration between specialists in both urban and remote regions.

Prof. Nahla Azzam described the program as a national first, emphasizing the importance of ongoing education through follow-up meetings. SGA President Prof. Majid Almadi praised the partnership with Janssen, noting its value in improving patient outcomes.

Mohamed Alquwaizani, General Manager of Janssen Saudi Arabia, highlighted the growing number of IBD cases and stressed the need for a stronger clinical network. Janssen reaffirmed its commitment to advancing medical knowledge and care quality.

The IBD COE program is expected to raise national standards for IBD treatment and position Saudi Arabia as a regional leader in gastrointestinal care.
