CONSUL GENERAL OF PAKISTAN HOSTS DINNER BANQUET IN HONOUR OF PAKISTANI SCIENTIST AND SPORTS HEROES AT PAKISTAN HOUSE, JEDDAH.

By: Syed Mussarat Khalil, Jeddah: The Consul General of Pakistan, Mr. Khalid Majid, hosted a distinguished dinner banquet at Pakistan House in Jeddah today, honoring three of Pakistan’s most prominent figures: renowned scientist Dr. Ata-ur-Rehman, cricket legend Shahid Afridi, and Olympic Javelin gold medalist Arshad Nadeem.

The event, which brought together a diverse audience, was attended by a cross-section of community members, sports enthusiasts, academics, and intellectuals based in Jeddah. Among the notable attendees were Professor Donal Bradley, President of NEOM Education, Research & Innovation Foundation, and Professor Michael Buerman, Chairman of the Winter Enrichment Program (WEP) at King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST), along with a large number of faculty members from KAUST.

During the evening, Dr. Ata-ur-Rehman shared insights into the progress of academic relations between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. He stressed the importance of investing in cutting-edge technologies to stay ahead of the rapidly evolving field of science and technology. His remarks highlighted the growing collaboration between the two nations in the academic sector.

International sports icons Shahid Afridi and Arshad Nadeem also spoke about their journeys to success. Afridi, the cricketing legend, reflected on his challenges and triumphs in the world of cricket, while Nadeem shared his inspiring story of perseverance, culminating in his Olympic gold medal victory in javelin throw. Both athletes emphasized the struggles they overcame before achieving global recognition and urged the younger generation to remain focused and dedicated in their pursuits.

Professor Bradley also took the opportunity to shed light on the NEOM project, a transformative city being built in Saudi Arabia, and its unique position as a hub for innovation in the region. He spoke about the determination and vision of the Saudi government to shape the future of technology and research.

In his welcome address, Consul General Mr. Khalid Majid expressed his immense pride in honoring such distinguished guests and praised Dr. Ata-ur-Rehman for his significant contributions to Pakistan’s academic development. He also lauded the achievements of Afridi and Nadeem, urging the community to draw inspiration from their relentless spirit and apply it to their personal and professional lives.

Mr. Majid concluded his remarks by thanking the Saudi government and KAUST for their pioneering initiatives in promoting science and technology and for inviting Pakistani luminaries as part of the Winter Enrichment Program (WEP).

The event was a celebration of excellence in both the academic and sports fields, underscoring the importance of collaboration and inspiration in fostering success.
