Muhammad Nadeem Babar, a former first-class cricketer and Ex-Captain of the Saudi national team, stands as one of the most accomplished cricketers to emerge from Pakistan and the Gulf region. With a career that spans over three decades, his journey reflects consistency, leadership, and unmatched performance both on national and international stages.
Born in 1971 in Karachi, Nadeem began his cricketing career in school-level tournaments before leading college teams and eventually representing the Pakistan Universities team. He played for major clubs and departments including Karachi Blues, Pakistan Customs, Pakistan Navy, KESC, and DHA, appearing in over 100 domestic matches across formats.
In 1992, Nadeem relocated to Saudi Arabia, where he quickly rose to prominence. He scored a century and took five wickets in his debut match and went on to captain both the Riyadh team and the national side. Under his leadership, Saudi Arabia participated in key tournaments, including World Cup qualifiers in Malaysia. He made history at Sharjah Stadium, becoming the first Saudi player to score a match-winning century in a day-night fixture.
His domestic record in Saudi Arabia is extraordinary: over 235 centuries and more than 2,000 wickets. He led the Riyadh Cricket Association to a national championship and received the prestigious Don Bradman Award of Gulf Cricket. Nadeem also represented Asia XI and World XI in matches against the Pakistan national team and played league cricket in England.
A certified ICC coach, Nadeem remains active in domestic cricket. He attributes his success to the guidance of his late elder brother, Muhammad Anwar Shaheed. “With his support, I reached this level,” he said. “I still feel fit and ready. If given the opportunity, I believe I can help Saudi Arabia excel further in international cricket.”
Nadeem Babar’s story is one of dedication, resilience, and cross-border impact. His legacy continues to inspire emerging cricketers across the region.
