Talent Hunt Begins for Islamabad Royals, GB Thunders, and Kashmir Stars:
RAWALPINDI – The Capital Premier League (CPL) has officially launched its search for new cricketing talent across Pakistan. The first phase of open trials was held at Rawal Park Cricket Ground, drawing over 1,000 aspiring players from Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and nearby regions.
This initiative marks the beginning of talent selection for three CPL teams: Islamabad Royals, GB Thunders, and Kashmir Stars.
Cricket Veterans Lead the Trials:
The trials were conducted under the supervision of prominent cricket figures, including CPL Tournament Director Sabih Azhar, first-class cricketers Zahid Mansoor and Jamal Anwar, and Level Two Coach Rafe Hashmi.
Young players were tested in multiple drills and match simulations to evaluate their skills and potential.
Arrangements were overseen by Coordinator Sanoor Gul, who expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the event. Cricket fans and community members attended in large numbers, reflecting the strong local enthusiasm for the sport.
Special Guests Commend the Initiative:
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including CPL President Chaudhry Arshad Ali Bega and Colonel Tanwir Ahmed, former Director-General at the Federal Ministry of Education.
President Bega praised the organizational efforts of CEO Aftab Nayyar Siddiqui and Director of Cricket Operations Waqar Ahmed Khan, acknowledging their dedication to promoting grassroots cricket.
In his address to the players, Bega emphasized the CPL’s vision to unite the country through cricket.
“The CPL will emerge as a symbol of unity, representing all provinces, Kashmir, and even overseas Pakistanis,” he said.
He added that the platform would allow young cricketers to gain national recognition and potentially enter the professional circuit.
Upcoming Phases and Tournament Dates:
The second phase of trials is scheduled to be held in Lahore, with dates to be announced shortly.
The inaugural Capital Premier League tournament is slated for March 16–23, to be held at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
