RAWALPINDI: (Reporter) – The search for new cricket talent across Pakistan has officially begun under the banner of the Capital Premier League (CPL), with trials taking place for three teams: Islamabad Royals, GB Thunders, and Kashmir Stars. The first phase of these trials was held at the Rawal Park Cricket Ground in Rawalpindi, attracting more than 1,000 players from Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and surrounding areas.
The trials were conducted by some of the biggest names in Pakistani cricket, including CPL Tournament Director Sabih Azhar, first-class cricketers Zahid Mansoor and Jamal Anwar, and Level Two Coach Rafe Hashmi. The players were put through their paces in various drills and match scenarios to assess their skills and potential for the upcoming CPL.
Coordinator Sanoor Gul oversaw the arrangements for the trials and expressed his satisfaction with the smooth execution of the event, which was widely attended by cricket enthusiasts and local supporters.
The event was graced by special guests, including Capital Premier League President Chaudhry Arshad Ali Bega and Colonel Tanwir Ahmed, former Director-General of the Federal Ministry of Education. Speaking at the occasion, President Bega commended the efforts of the CPL team, particularly CEO Aftab Nayyar Siddiqui and Director of Cricket Operations Waqar Ahmed Khan, for successfully organizing the trials.
Chaudhry Arshad Ali Bega spoke to the aspiring players, emphasizing the importance of the Capital Premier League in fostering new talent and connecting Pakistanis from around the world. “The CPL will emerge as a new symbol of unity in Pakistan, with teams representing all the provinces, Kashmir, and even overseas Pakistanis,” he said. “This initiative will help keep Pakistanis abroad connected with their homeland and offer a platform for young cricketers to showcase their skills on a national stage.”
He further highlighted that the CPL would be a game-changer for young cricketers, providing them with much-needed exposure and the opportunity to break into the professional cricket circuit.
The trials will continue with a second phase in Lahore, the dates for which will be announced soon. The highly anticipated Capital Premier League tournament is set to take place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from March 16 to March 23, promising to be a thrilling showcase of emerging cricket talent from across the country.
The event has generated significant excitement, with cricket fans eagerly awaiting the chance to see the stars of tomorrow in action. The CPL is poised to play a crucial role in the development of Pakistan’s cricketing future, giving young players the opportunity to shine on a big stage.
